The Colour Of Liverpool City

Created by William Devereux 11 years ago
Whilst walking around West Derby Village with me Granddad, he gave me a question "Stephen, do you you know the colour of Liverpool City?", me stratching me head, thinking is this a joke or is a serious question. After a long throught ie blue or red, not a lot of chose to pick from I replied "Red Granddad", he remarked with a checky grin and that wink in his eye "No son, think again. Take a good look around you". At this point I wasn't going to say blue. Still puzzled and baffled with such a simple question I finally admitted defeat. "Sorry Granddad, I don't know that one, you got me on that, so what is it". Granddad stopped both of us and pointed to a bin. This bin was the colour purple. At this point I was getting confused. Granddad then said without a change in his tone or no hint of a smile "The colour of Liverpool is purple son, the reason for that is so many red and blue bins etc would be rejected or damaged, so the colour was chosen purple, mix red and blue what do you get?". To me that made sense for me as the passion for football in Liverpool is so great. Even still now, I don't know whether Granddad was telling me the truth or having a good joke on my behalf. That I will never know, and its one of those little things I will treasure. God Bless Him
